Shoebill 2023

Part of a series of studies of endangered animals I’ve been making in the hope of raising money for conservation (please see Bio). I am fascinated by these dinosaur–like birds which can stand up to five feet tall and have an elaborate bowing dance which they practise to bond with their mate. The structure of their bills is just extraordinary. I’m not sure they have very big brains as they spend most of their time stalking catfish and usually only manage to raise one of their two hatchlings….
